Sune Smith-Nielsen to become FCK development director
F.C. Copenhagen’s talent manager Sune Smith-Nielsen has been appointed the new development director at the club.
Sune will expand his responsibilities so that he - in addition to being the head of the talent department - also takes over a number of responsibilities around club development. He will refer to the sporting leader.
Sune has been part of the FCK set-up since 2008, where he has worked with the development of some of the club’s greatest youth products.
Kvist: A capacity within the club
“We are very pleased that we have a capacity like Sune within the club and that he is ready to expand his area of responsibility in some areas that are important to the club," said William Kvist.
“He has been a key figure in elevating our talent department to the international level with his great professionalism and experience. We are therefore looking into a future where we will continuously see in-house developed players take the step up to the first team.
Strong analytical and strategic
"Sune is incredibly strong analytically and strategically, so it is obvious to us that he will be an even bigger part of the football management department.
“He has to be the lead on the sporting development projects in the club, and make sure we ask the right questions for everything we do. Those questions have to ensure we get more out of what we have and stay focused and active in the development in international football. When we want to play with the best in Europe, we must constantly make sure that we get the most out of our resources.”
"At the same time, he ensures an even better coherence between the talent department and the first team, which will be absolutely crucial for whether we succeed in making the future Jonas Wind and Mohamed Daramy for the first team.”
Sune: Looking forward to my new role
Sune, 48, has an A license as a coach, and a Masters in Human Resource Management from Copenhagen Business School.
“I am very much looking forward to continuing in the club in my new role," says Sune.
"We have moved a lot in recent years around our talent development through structured work, and that's also the direction I want to go in with the new responsibilities I take over.
Requirements for new thinking and cross-collaboration
"We must be ambitious in our ability to develop as a football club within the various key sporting processes, in order to increase our international competitiveness.
“We want to play with the best in the world in all subject areas and this places demands on new thinking, a high level of competence and not least the ability to collaborate across all subject areas.
"We will initiate various sporting development projects based on our strategy 2019+. Projects, all of which must contribute to greater sporting output.
Strong foundation
"There is an incredibly strong foundation and a lot of talented people both in the talent department and around the first team. Therefore, I am very confident that together we can build on and strengthen FCK even more in the future.”
